Ice fishing event; Chain Lakes Provincial Park (near Nanton, AB).
February 16
Dear Members, Family, and Friends of the Calgary Academy of Chefs and Cooks,
Please join us for a family-friendly ice fishing outing on Family Day, Monday, February 16th, 2026. This will be the CACC’s 3rd annual ice fishing event!
Fishing is safe, fun, family-friendly… and free in Alberta on Family Day.
We plan to go to the Chain Lakes Provincial Park recreational site again this year which is approximately 1.25 hours drive south of Calgary. See link for park information and map. https://g.co/kgs/Vm8mSnM
Save the date (Family Day – Monday, Feb 16) and stay tuned. Please email me at paremathieu@gmail.com to confirm your interest and to receive more info. I’ll keep those of you who reply informed as to where and what time we will meet and what to bring. No experience or equipment necessary. The only requirement is to dress very warmly and to wear insulated boots (preferably waterproof).
We’ll plan to have hot chocolate at the site and if the weather, and fish, cooperate, we’ll have a quick seminar on how to dress a trout for pan frying – and hopefully we will pan fry a trout!
Please invite your friends and family and come early, the best fishing happens in the morning. See this great video created by SAIT’s Food Story team about our beautiful day on the lake during the 2024 event https://foodstory.ca/stories/ ice-fishing-a-food-story and photos attached.
This event is weather dependent and requires safe ice conditions. Stay tuned, more information to follow!
Looking forward to another excellent CACC Family Day ice fishing outing together for 2026.
